Possible flowers?

I met with a florist this weekend who I think is just going to work out great. She was very hands on and even had me walk through the cooler with her and actually handle the various flowers we were talking about. I liked how open she was to my ideas and feel that she'll be great to work with too.

Trying desperately to bite off more than I can chew, I got creative with my bouquet. With any luck, I'll actually finish it by March.

I'm not cheap, I'm practical.

I stumbled across a Weddings by Design site. It's pretty cheesey (what is it with these wedding people - can't they code?!), but did seem to have a great idea in their bouquet holders. The idea is to use the bride and bridesmaid bouquets to adorn the head table instead of paying for another floral arrangement.

Although I have previously mentioned I am not hung up on flowers, I have decided that I am interested in carrying a large-ish bouqet down the aisle. This site has some great examples as well as links to flower meanings. Ok, that's hokey. So shoot me.

Here's an example of one shape I'm interested in. The actual flowers are negotiable, depending on what's in season and not too pricey.

I told J that I didn't want to toss my bouquet because I never was the type to dive for a bouquet at a wedding reception and he looked at me like I was crazy. I just don't think in this day and age it's appropriate.

Am I way out of tune here with other women? Any thoughts?

flowers and invites, woo

I'm finding myself entirely baffled re: invitations and assembly thereof, and am leaning heavily towards these since they make sense and I'm a sucker for handmade flower paper.

Question: can one truly get a sharp, clean print on vellum on an inkjet printer? I'm going to order samples and test it out, but I'm skeptical. Julie, I should do them in Quark, yes?

I've got about the same devotion to flowers as Karen; I saw that flowerbud.com tulip deal, which is in the running, but also Sam's has good deals and they ship overnight and all that, and they sound like they know what they're doing. Even though they have a tendency to either be stellar or awful, I like hydrangeas.

Wholesale flowers

Jason and I decided early on to cut costs wherever we could so we could splurge on nice food and a really awesome photographer. His parents are taking care of the photographer, but we still want to save whatever money we can since there is an extra-large purchase in the form of a house in our near future.

One idea all over the bridal magazines is to buy cut flowers wholesale or in bulk and do your own bouquets and things. We wanted to forgo the floral extravaganza of most weddings -- no flower-draped cake, no gaudy and giant rose arrangements on the altar. So, we settled on white tulips. Always in season and, conveniently, our favorite flower. And since I'm a total bigot when it comes to judging businesses by their websites, I'm planning to buy my flowers from Flowerbud.com. I can get 120 tulip stems for $140 -- and that's about all I'm going to spend on flowers.

Where's my insanely long checklist? I need to check that off.
